On Monday 6th October, our Year 5 cohort set off on an exciting educational visit to Chester Cathedral. Linked directly to their Religious Studies unit on ‘Worship’, the trip gave the children a valuable opportunity to tour the cathedral, explore its rich history and reflect on how the building functions as a vibrant place of worship.
During their tour, which was organised by Mrs Evans, Head of Religious Studies at Terra Nova, the children explored the historic architecture and took part in a range of engaging activities.
Highlights of the trip included admiring the detailed Lego replica of the cathedral, viewing the cathedral’s stained-glass windows and having hands-on fun dressing up as monks. To round off their visit, pupils also had time to browse the cathedral gift shop before returning to school.
The Year 5 teaching staff were immensely proud of the children’s conduct throughout the visit, with Mrs Evans commenting: “The Year 5s displayed exemplary behaviour, wonderful enthusiasm and immaculate manners. It was a pleasure to spend the day with them.”
Back at school, the children reflected on their time at the cathedral by writing thank you letters to their tour guides. Pupils commented that they ‘loved the trip’ and how much fun they had dressing up.
“I think my personal favourite was the Lego sculpture. It was so neat and beautiful.” – Ariah, Year 5 pupil.
“I loved the stained-glass windows and how much detail was on each one. It really was quite interesting looking at all the dates and numbers.” – Izzy, Year 5 pupil.
