Boarding Options
A home from home
At Terra Nova, we are proud to offer a welcoming and homely boarding house which is run by a team of professionals whose focus and drive is the pastoral care and development of each individual child.
Boarding at Terra Nova offers pupils from Years 3-8 a chance to grow in confidence and independence while enjoying activities with their friends. For some pupils, this may be in readiness for boarding at Senior School; for many, however, it is about continuing to take advantage of all that our outstanding Prep School has to offer in the company of their peers, and above all, having fun!
Flexible around families
Our different options for boarding are designed to support both pupils and families. Please see below for an overview of the different ways pupils are able to board at Terra Nova.
Weekly Boarding
Weekly boarding is a great option for families who are looking for flexibility and balance. Weekly boarding allows a pupil to be completely immersed in school life, increasing levels of independence, whilst also having valued family time at the weekend. Weekly boarding also provides valuable preparation for those considering senior boarding schools.
Flexi-Boarding
For those families that live closer to Terra Nova, we also offer flexi-boarding. This provides families with complete flexibility and the option to take advantage of our boarding community as and when needed.
Flexi-boarding offers the ability for pupils to fully immerse themselves into school life, to spend more time on their studies, extra-curricular activities, as well as deepening friendships that will stand the test of time. Flexi-boarding can be booked on any night of the week.
All boarders, whether weekly or flexi, fully integrate into boarding life and play a vital role within our boarding community.
Our Boarding Philosophy
Boarding at Terra Nova provides every child with:
- A safe, caring, homely atmosphere in which children can grow in confidence and develop an independence and interdependence that will prepare them for their future lives.
- A happy and stable environment in which children can relax and feel secure.
- A considerate and caring staff who have the best interests of the children as their prime consideration and are prepared to give their time and energy to ensure that the boarders feel safe and happy.
- A range of activities and clubs that will assist in the personal, social and cultural development of each child.
- A boarding area that is clean, comfortable and well decorated, that is safe and free from physical hazards and danger.
- A nourishing, varied and well-balanced diet to ensure the healthy well being and physical growth of the children.
- Access to qualified medical assistance in the event of illness or accident.
- Assistance with and oversight of academic work to ensure that children keep up with work and progress is made.
- A discipline that is firm and fair, based on the expectation of good manners and a high standard of behaviour that shows consideration for others in the community.
- A system that establishes and maintains links with parents so that they are aware of what is happening and they are kept in touch with their child’s development.
Boarding Life
The evening activity programme provided by the boarding team enables strong interpersonal development through access to a wide range of co-curricular activities. From swimming to tennis, crafts to baking, movie-night to outdoor games, and so much more, children are destined to be busy and to have fun, whatever the activity. An overview of the current term’s activities is available from the Boarding team.
Boarding Specials on certain Fridays often involve trips or experiences, which have recently included Ninja Warrior, Clip and Climb, Flip Out!, and Snow tubing.
Dedicated Boarding Team
Every member of our Boarding Team is committed to ensuring outstanding care and nurture for pupils alongside delivering a wonderful and enjoyable programme of activities.
