This Wednesday was very exciting for Year 2 who welcomed a panel of terrifying Dragons (Mrs Tomlinson certainly got the memo…) to judge their innovative ideas. For those unfamiliar, the Dragons’ Den format is one where young entrepreneurs present their ideas to a panel of fierce judges who will potentially offer funding to turn their idea into a successful business. Our terrifying judges this year were Mrs Tomlinson, Nurse Jo, Miss Mannion and Miss Cragg.
The brief was to create a product focused on improving maths skills, increasing physical activity, helping the environment or technology.
While there was (to our knowledge) no talk of “I’m in for thousands, and 5% of the profits”, the activity centred on a number of key skills: communication, confidence, teamwork and creativity. From robots to suck microplastics from the ocean floor and glow-in-the-dark sports equipment to remain active in the dark winter months, to supersonic cleaners powered by AI and “next level” tents featuring climate control and robotic maintenance, the creative ideas on display were simply outstanding. The winning team secured a victory with their idea for “Shuper Shovels” – footwear designed to be both safe and functional in the snow, clearing paths while you walk. Ingenious!
Miss Cooper writes, “It is safe to say that the future is very bright for our children. On behalf of the Year 2 team, I would like to congratulate each and every pupil for their hard work and focus during this project. Every single child shone during this event and really wowed their teachers and the panel of guest judges with their amazing ideas.”
