On Monday, we were delighted to welcome our Pre-Prep parents into school for a hands-on Mathematics Workshop. This event marked the first TN Talks session of the year and provided a valuable opportunity for our Year 1 and Year 2 teaching team to share their enthusiasm, expertise and love of mathematics with the parent community.
During the session, parents were invited to explore how mathematics is taught across the Pre-Prep, with a focus on addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. The workshop was highly interactive, giving parents the chance to engage directly with the activities and approaches their children experience in the classroom.
The team also shared how we use the concrete–pictorial–abstract approach to support children in developing a deep and secure understanding of mathematical concepts. Alongside this, discussion focused on the importance of building fluency, confidence and flexibility with numbers, helping children to approach problem-solving with curiosity and resilience.
Thank you to all the parents who joined us. It was a pleasure to learn together and to celebrate the joy of mathematics as part of everyday learning at Terra Nova.
