Reception pupils enjoyed an unforgettable learning experience this week as their “People Who Help Us” topic came vividly to life with a special visit from the local fire service.
Excitement quickly spread as the firefighters arrived on the school field in their fire engine. For many pupils, seeing the vehicle up close was a thrilling moment, and there was plenty of curiosity as the children gathered around to explore the different compartments and discover the specialist equipment firefighters use in their work.
The firefighters spoke to the children about their important role in helping keep communities safe, offering a fascinating insight into the many ways they respond to emergencies and support people in need. One of the highlights of the visit was the opportunity for the children to climb into the cab of the fire engine, where they could see the world from a firefighter’s perspective.
The excitement reached its peak when the children were invited to help operate the fire hoses, sending great arcs of water across the field to the delight of everyone watching, and the children experienced first-hand just how powerful the equipment can be.
The visit provided a wonderful opportunity to connect classroom learning with real-world experiences, helping pupils develop a deeper understanding of the people who help and protect our communities. We are very grateful to our local firefighters for taking the time to visit Terra Nova and for sharing such an engaging and memorable insight into their work.
