The Maths Masters Workshop took place last week, led by Alex Brogan, Head of Mathematics at Shrewsbury School. The day was structured into three high-impact sessions across key stages:
Session 1: Problem Solving. The first workshop saw pupils from Years 2, 3, and 5 working enthusiastically on a range of problem-solving tasks, including magic squares. The students had a fantastic time and were very excited to take part, demonstrating great engagement.
Session 2: Systematic Methods. The second session saw our Year 5 and 6 pupils putting their minds to the task of deriving systematic methods for identifying numbers that meet specific criteria. Mr. Brogan commented on how well the pupils conducted themselves and focused on the challenges they were set.
Session 3: Scholarship Preparation. Finally, it was the turn of the Year 7 and 8 students. Mr. Brogan delivered a targeted session on the content and skills needed for Scholarship papers. Pupils explored combinations and how to use Pascal’s Triangle to find possible combinations. Again, Mr. Brogan was impressed with the level of understanding shown, especially Jack, with his excellent knowledge of factorials.
The workshop was a truly valuable experience that showcased the talent and focus of our mathematics students across the different year groups.
