There was great excitement in Science lessons this week as Year 2 stepped back in time to investigate a crime aboard the Titanic.
As part of their learning, the children were presented with a mystery linked to the ship and challenged to solve it using forensic science techniques. Taking on the role of forensic investigators, they set about gathering and analysing evidence to identify the culprit.
To crack the case, pupils explored two fingerprinting methods: graphite and baby powder. Carefully applying each substance to reveal hidden prints, they then discovered how to lift the fingerprints using tape, just like real-life forensic teams. The activity required patience, concentration and a steady hand, as accuracy and precision were key to obtaining clear results.
The investigation brought Science to life and reinforced important skills such as careful observation, logical reasoning and teamwork. The children discussed their findings, compared evidence and worked collaboratively to reach their conclusions.
