Creative Arts
Creative Visions
Our Art department is a key place where pupils can flourish. From Year 1 pupils enjoy specialist subject teaching in their Creative Art lessons. We are passionate in our belief that teaching children to be creative is a crucial life skill which gives pupils a sense of wellbeing and helps them to build a sense of their identity. The children’s exploration through art and different mediums inspires and enables them to develop their creative and critical thinking skills, as well as developing their technical skills. We encourage pupils to be innovative, to explore and to take risks.
Art lessons take place each week and are often found outdoors among our extensive grounds, whether it be lying on the grass sketching the school building under the sun or perched among the bluebells in Spring.
Pupils are encouraged to enter art competitions, with Shrewsbury Schools’ annual art competition being an excellent example. Pupils regularly attend workshop days at several Senior Schools which excites the children about their creative life.
Innovation in Action
Design Technology is taught by subject specialists from Year 3 onwards, making full use of the school’s dedicated DT Studio. The curriculum emphasises the importance of design and innovation in everyday life, encouraging pupils to think creatively while developing practical skills.
Alongside their lessons, pupils are able to take part in a range of clubs that provide additional opportunities to explore, experiment and refine their ideas. These experiences aim to inspire the next generation of designers and engineers, equipping them with the curiosity, problem-solving skills, and confidence to bring their concepts to life.
