Devoted Care
The School’s Pastoral Strategy focuses on ensuring that the right support is not only ‘in place’, but is embedded, for every single pupil. Whether medical, pastoral, developmental, educational or emotional support, all pupils’ needs are met at a bespoke level, ensuring that every child’s potential may be nurtured and supported at every step of the way, no matter what difficulties they may encounter along the journey of childhood and adolescence.
Devoted Care
Terra Nova is pleased to engage a full-time School Nurse, who is based in the School Surgery. Nurse Jo Tomlinson joined Terra Nova in 2022 having devoted her career to end-of-life care at the incredible St. Luke’s Hospice, Cheshire. As an accomplished RGN, Nurse Jo is on site each day to support any pupils who may be unwell, injured, or simply in need of a friendly and, at times, confidential ear. Alongside her medical responsibilities, Nurse Jo is a key member of the Pastoral Team, supporting pupils’ wellbeing as both a friendly and trusted supporter.
Nurse Jo is ably supported by a second RGN, Mrs Jo Talkington (Head of Boarding), who also assumes responsibility for the School’s in-house First Aid Training.
Dedicated Support
The School is incredibly proud to employ a dedicated School Counsellor. Specialising in Child Psychotherapy, Celina Sissons proactively supports individuals, small groups and whole-cohorts in key aspects of childhood development and emotional wellbeing, as well as serving as a core member of the extended Pastoral and Safeguarding teams as and when circumstances may require. Celina’s expertise, warm demeanour and visible presence ensure that she is a trusted adult to a vast number of Terra Novians, from the youngest to most senior pupils.
