Our Reception classes recently traded the classroom for the deep blue sea! The day began with a buzz of energy as our excited explorers arrived at school, absolutely delighted to board the minibus for an adventure. The palpable excitement set the perfect tone for a day of discovery, and it was clear from the start that we were in for a truly memorable experience.
Upon arrival, we decided to dive straight into the deep end by visiting the famous Shark Tunnel. The children were in complete awe of the amazing sea creatures surrounding them on all sides. They were so captivated by the experience that we decided to travel through the tunnel twice to make sure we didn’t miss a single fin or tooth. As we moved into the main exhibits, the children were thrilled to come face-to-face with the very creatures they have spent the last few weeks investigating in class, from a very active octopus to the colorful fish of the reefs.
A highlight of the trip was watching the divers in the Aquatheatre. The children were fixated as sharks glided effortlessly past the divers; it became very apparent that we have quite a few brave, budding divers in our midst! After a delicious lunch together in the café, we headed into a classroom session to learn more about sea creature habitats. The children were so attentive and respectful as they extended their knowledge even further, asking brilliant questions and soaking up fascinating facts. As we headed home, we had a much quieter journey; there were a few sleepy heads and quiet chatter as the children reflected on their favorite moments. An amazing day was had by all.
At Terra Nova, we deeply value the importance of learning beyond the classroom. This trip provided a vital first-hand learning opportunity that has significantly enhanced the children’s awareness of the natural world, fostering a sense of wonder that will stay with them for a long time. Well done, Reception, for being such brilliant ambassadors for our school!
